IMPACT Minerals International Inc. ("IMPACT") is pleased to announce exploration results from its 1999 initial reconnaissance geological mapping, prospecting, and sampling program of the 54 square kilometer El Brujo property in the eastern Domincan Republic. The program was designed to follow-up on a 5 square kilometer area previously soil sampled by BHP Minerals International Inc. in 1996. Two main zones of interest have been outlined with a total of 115 rock geochemical samples. The 600 meter by 850 meter "Gossan Zone" is defined by a gold -- copper soil anomaly with a peripheral zinc anomaly that contains widespread gossan and ferricrete subcrop and float boulders. Abundant ferricrete samples in this zone are anomalous in copper and zinc. Gossan samples grade from 50 ppb to 3.72 grams gold per tonne, 0.2 ppm to 130 grams silver per tonne and 1000 ppm to 4370 ppm copper. While gold and silver content varies in the iron oxide cap rock, numerous float boulders assaying greater than 1 gram gold per tonne and 3 grams silver per tonne have been encountered. The "Vein Zone", located 1.5 kilometers southeast of the Gossan Zone, contains quartz--iron oxide vein float with gold grades of 0.185 to 2.51 grams gold per tonne within a 350 meter by 450 meter gold-in-soil anomaly.
Prospecting along strike to the northwest from the previously gridded area resulted in the discovery of anomalous gold in float boulders (up to 3.02 grams gold per tonne and 3.2 grams silver per tonne) three kilometers northwest of the Gossan Zone. Further investigation of these occurrences is planned.
Anomalous gold-silver mineralization has been delineated on the La Bruja and El Brujo properties in subcrop and float boulders over an eight kilometer strike length along a prominent NW-SE structure. The presence of advanced argillic alteration and local concentrations of enargite indicate that the previously drilled La Bruja property is a high sulphidation epithermal system with similarities to Pueblo Viejo. Geological mapping and rock geochemical sampling show that the larger El Brujo prospect is argillically altered on the periphery of the Gossan Zone. The alteration pattern suggests that a high sulphidation epithermal system exists below the poorly exposed iron-rich area of anomalous gold, silver and copper in rock and soil of the Gossan Zone.
The grade and widespread occurrence of gold-silver-copper mineralization are highly encouraging at this early stage of exploration. A further program of geological mapping, prospecting, trenching, geochemical sampling and geophysical surveying to define drill targets is planned.
